Fremont, Center of the Universe, where the Artist's Live. This
neighborhood jaunt takes you through Fremont, where many local
artist’s live and work. We begin at an enchanting Rose Garden
with topiary trees right out of Alice in Wonderland, where we will
explore a variety of photographic techniques and styles along with
composition and proper metering. Onward we go, as we journey down
hill past yoga and belly dancing studios on our way into the heart
of Fremont. Public art flourishes here with famous sculptures like
“Waiting for the Interurban” which Seattleites dress up in
costumes at whim, a bronze statue of communist revolutionary
Vladimir Lenin, along with a lurking Troll who is eating a
life-size Volkswagen Beetle. From there we will walk to Gasworks
Park on Lake an industrial treasure trove of possibilities for
photographers. Kite flying is also popular at this park.
Understanding light, its direction, the type, and how it affects
the photograph will be discussed.

Pikes Peak
Olympic Sculpture Park
Sunday 10am
"Buy your crab here!" barks a man dressed in rubber
boots and overalls, children take turns sitting on top of a bronze
pig, as ferry boats float by. This is Seattle's Pike Place Market
and one of the most popular destinations for locals and tourists
alike. This tour begins at the new Olympic Sculpture Park where
you will learn different approaches to photographing sculpture,
how to interpret light, frame scenes and composition. Then we will
walk over to The Pike Place Market where entertaining fish sellers
toss fish, local artists sell from open air tables, and farmers
sell their colorful produce. Learn how to shoot environmental
portraits, still lifes, and how to shoot in mixed lighting. Street
performers, vibrant flower stands, and tarot readers make this a
favorite photographic location. There will be many foods to try
and Seattle's beloved coffee to drink, so don't worry about
missing lunch. On our walk we will stop and look out at Puget
Sound alive with ferry boats, with the Olympic Mountains dancing
on the horizon. Now we will venture down to Pioneer Square, which
is the oldest part of the city. On our way we will pass the
Seattle Art Museum and the Harbour steps while discussing
architectural photography. Pioneer Square has old brick buildings
that house galleries, artist studios, music clubs, and
restaurants. This is a great part of the tour to shoot street
photography and shoot in black and white. Our tour ends at The
Elliot Bay Bookstore which you can peruse, they have a cafe
downstairs if you want to rest your feet. From here you can go
shopping, dine, or take The Seattle Underground Tour (Seattle was
burned to the ground in 1889, and built over)
